The 1978 World Rowing Championships were the first to take place in the Southern hemisphere, but that was only one of the many challenges which faced GB women’s rowing that year.
As a result of all of these, the ‘team’ finished up being just a single crew – the highly successful double of Astrid Ayling and Pauline Hart (now Peel), who faced a tough draw and rough conditions in their fight to make their second World Championships final together.
(Apologies for the typo that read “mangy challenges” instead of “many challenges” in the email notification of this! OopsRedFace – Ed.)
